Back in May of 2014 we partnered with a cut & sew factory in Oregon. Since then we have been going through the process of refining the Slap Bag design with the goal of improving the original prototypes. Some of the major adjustments and improvements in that time are with the velcro attachments for the handlebars, offset attachments and reduced sag of the bag when carrying larger items. SUCCESS!!!!
On May 19th, 2016 just over 2 years after starting the process we have a GOLD SAMPLE, well 2 actually, in hand. These bags are going through our final product in-the-field testing right now and expecting they pass these will be the designs that are the final production blueprints.
In the final round we made a major breakthrough with the closure system in which the sag was all but removed when under load. Previous versions, including the original prototypes from 2005, sagged when under load. Although that never presented a functional problem it was aesthetically unpleasing and didn't present the way we hoped.
The fine folks in Oregon have begun making 12 final gold samples which will be used in our upcoming Kickstarter video shoot scheduled for June 4th in Denver and Boulder. Immediately after they finish and ship those 12 we have put in an order for our first pre-production batch of 100 bags. These bags will be seeded to bloggers, reviewers and interested wholesalers as well as a select few will go out to our earliest fans!
About 10% of those first 100 bags will be set aside for the first supporters of our Kickstarter campaign who also make it to our Kickstarter Launch Party here in Boulder on June 28th at Sanitas Brewing Company. We'll be putting names into a hat and drawing the lucky folks who won't have to wait even 1 day to get their Kickstarter supported Slap Bags.
